Cherry blossoms are now blooming in many places in Nagano. I went to the Matsumoto Castle yesterday and cherries there are in full bloom.

“Nighttime Cherry Blossom Viewing” event is held every night until 14th.

When you visit the castle, you might be surprised to meet a samurai wearing armor. It is service by omotenashi group and you can take a photo with him freely.

Last year, a cool ninja and cute princess joined the group. They sometimes appear, so if you are lucky you can see them.

One more news is, a Matsumoto citizen’s group produced a new souvenir, stickers, and has begun to sell since February. One of them is “cherry and castle” design and just started to be sold. If you put it on your suitcase, you can easily distinguish it from others.

There is a souvenir shop in the castle garden, located in the right-hand side after the ticket booth to enter the garden. You can buy many good including our stickers and other souvenirs, such as armor helmets, T-shirts, temari balls, key holders, smartphone straps, etc, etc.

  1. Thanks for giving your input Fidel! I’m glad somonee living in Japan chimed in on my thoughts. I appreciated the museum aspect the first go around, and lost interest in the castles that followed. The shrines were a little different to me, mostly because I was expecting most of them to be the same over and over again (much like the churches of Europe). After 4 weeks in Japan I left and went to China, and the first day I went to a temple and promptly stopped caring about going to temples.

  2. Jose-san, thank you for your comment. I hope you have wonderful memories of our place and visit again some time!
