I am planning to stay Hakuba Village in middle of May 2016.  Is this a good place and time to do short daily walks up in the mountains?  Is it correct that the ropeways and chairlifts will be operating even though the ski season is over?  Thanks

Hi Ivan, There are several popular day hikes in Hakuba that can be reached via ski lift. You can reach Tsugaike Nature Park from Tsugaike Kogen Ski Resort, and Happo Pond from Hakuba Happo One Ski Resort. During your stay, you should be able to visit Tsugaike’s highland park, but Happo Pond won’t be accessible until early June. There is still a decent amount of snow atop the mountains, so you may want to bring some crampons and waterproof boots as well. Evergreen Outdoor Center in Hakuba also offers a variety of guided hiking tours, from short half-day hikes to full hikes to the top of local peaks. You can ask them for more detailed information about what hikes will be available when you arrive. I hope that answers your question! -Blair
