Suggestions for sightseeing along Hokuriku shinkansen line in December

Hi, my family of 4 (youngest child is 7yo) fly in via Tokyo and will be skiing for a few days in mid December at Nozawa Onsen. We have 3 days prior to that to do sightseeing. Can you suggest some places (and the order) to visit, that are along the Hokuriku shinkansen line as we will be getting the JR East pass?

Thanks!

Hi Xiaowei,

Thanks for your question.

The Explore Japan section of the Hokuriku Arch Pass website shows sightseeing spots around stations along the Hokuriku Shinkansen train. The JR East Pass covers the Hokuriku Shinkansen between Tokyo and Joetsu Myoko stations, so you could visit any places between there during your stay.

In Nagano, you may want to stop in Karuizawa for shopping at the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza, skiing at its resort, enjoying its cafes and restaurants, or ice-skating outdoors.

Next, I would recommend stopping in Nagano City to visit Zenkoji Temple. You may also want to visit the Snow Monkey Park in Yamanouchi as well as the town of Obuse, which can be accessed via the Nagano Dentetsu train or bus (not covered by the JR pass). You can purchase the Snow Monkey 1-Day Pass for unlimited use of the Nagano Dentetsu train/bus network for one day, plus entrance to the Snow Monkey Park.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!
