Im planning to visit Togakushi Shrine, Zenkoji Shrine and Mishaka Pond. Is that possible to do so in 2.5 days?

Is Mishaka Pond accessible by public transport in February?

Thanks!

Hi Phyllis,

It is possible to visit all three in 2.5 days. You can easily see Togakushi and Zenkoji in the same day. Along the way to Chino, I also recommend that you stop in Matsumoto for a few hours to see Matsumoto Castle.

There is a bus that runs to Mishaka Pond during February. It is the Shibu no Yu line bus from Chino Station (Japanese timetable here). Here’s a quick table of the Chino and Mishaka Pond stops:

To Mishaka Pond        1st  2nd  3rd
Chino Station          9:20 10:25 13:45
Meiji Onsen Iriguchi (Mishaka Pond) 10:01 11:06 14:26
To Chino Station         1st  2nd  3rd
Meiji Onsen Iriguchi (Mishaka Pond) 10:46  11:51  15:11
Chino Station          11:27  12:32  15:52

This timetable is active from November 6 to April 27 (2018). Every bus runs on the weekend, and the second and third buses also run on February 2, 5, 9, 13, 16, 19, 23 and 26.

I hope that answers your question!

thanks for the fast reply. I read on forums saying the Togakusfhi Shrine will be covered in thick snow and Mid-late February is not the ideal time to go visit.

What’s your opinion on that? would I be better off visiting somewhere else?

Thanks!

Togakushi will be covered in snow and the shrine itself may not be fully visible, but the best part about the hike is the section of 400 year old cypress trees. To combat the snow, you can rent snowshoes at Okushamae Naosuke, the soba shop outside the entrance to the shrine walk. I personally think winter is a great time to visit the area and try snowshoeing.

I hope that helps.
