Northern Japan Alps in July

I am planning to hike the 4D3N hike from Mt. Shirouma to Ogizawa, going to stay in Hakuba the night before. However, after that I am also planning to visit other parts of Japan for another 4 days. Is it possible that I only bring along my hiking-related equipment when I go for the hike and store my other non-hiking related items somewhere else? After the 4 days I will come back to collect it. Is there any of this type of storage service that is available?

Hi Aaron,

There are coin lockers at Hakuba Station where you can store your unnecessary items for the four days you will be hiking. There are three locker sizes which cost 400, 500 or 600 yen per day.

I hope that answers your question. Let me know if I can help with anything else.

P.S: Please fill out a trekking itinerary form in advance of your trip and submit it at the postbox at the trailhead.

Hi Blair,

Thanks for the reply! Definitely will fill up itinerary form. Are the lockers available throughout all cities in Nagano? Also what will the temperature be like up in the alps in July?

Hi Aaron,

Large stations such as Matsumoto and Nagano have coin lockers, but most places have a usage limit of up to 3 days. Because there are many hikers in Hakuba, they allow you to store your luggage longer.

As for the temperature up in the mountains, the highs should be about 20 degrees Celsius and the lows around 10.

I hope that helps.
