Like to use Matsumoto as a base and do day trips to sightsee around Matsumoto Is the tourist pass for Alpico in the link below still available?
Planning to go to Kamikochi and spend some time to chill and do some light trekking. Is the Alpico bus open for Kamikochi?
The Alps 2-Day Pass is still available and you can purchase it at Matsumoto or Shinshimashima bus terminals.
The Kamikochi bus does not run during winter as Kamikochi’s facilities are shut down, but the bus will begin running again on April 17. The official opening ceremony for Kamikochi will be held on April 27, so until then hotels, cafeteries, etc., will remain closed. Be sure to bring any food and drink with you if you visit Kamikochi before the official opening date.
You can see the Kamikochi bus schedule here: Alpico Kamikochi bus schedule.
I hope that answers your question.
Thank you for your reply.
We will be traveling to the Kamikochi and Mt. Norikura/ Tatamidaira & highland area in Jun.
We are not serious hikers but can do with 4 hrs of walk a day. How is the walk on Kamikochi compared to Norikura area?
I tried to book accomodation at Kamikochi, however, there is limited accommodation I could book online as most of them only allow local booking. Those which allow foreigner booking are rather expensive. Any recommendation for accommodation cheaper booking?
If I cannot afford the accommodation, then an alternative is to a day trip from Matsumoto to Kamikochi, do some walks and return to Matsumoto for the night. What do you think about this? Do I have enough time to do walk? Still worth the while to travel to Kamikochi?
Thank you again for your help.
Most people who aren’t serious hikers do day trips to Kamikochi, either from Matsumoto City or a nearby hot spring area like Shirahone. You will have plenty of time to walk around Kamikochi even if you do a day trip.
If there is an accommodation that you would like to book but can’t book online, then one option would be to use the Nagano Multilingual Call Center. The center acts as an intermediary and interprets for you so you can make bookings or specific requests at local ryokans and hotels.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
