Hi, we are family of four and will be visiting Nagano on 28-30 December 2018. We are planning to Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park and Shiga Kogen Ski Park. Can we take the bus from Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park to Shiga Kogen Ski Park (is it Sun Valley the nearest ski park?) or we should take the bus from Nagano station to Shiga Kogen?

We will be staying at the hotel near Nagano Station. Thanks.

Hi Carla,

To reach Shiga Kogen, you should take one of the Shiga Kogen line buses listed on our bus timetables page (note that we are currently on summer bus schedules; winter schedules will be updated in November). Buses for Shiga Kogen depart from Yudanaka Station, Nagano Station, and occasionally from Iiyama Station. All buses also pass the Snow Monkey Park bus stop along the way, so you can also get on the bus to Shiga Kogen from there.

Sun Valley is the closest of Shiga Kogen’s ski areas, but there are many others to choose from. If you’d like to see the best views of Shiga, the Yokoteyama area has the highest point in the highlands at the top of Mt. Yokote and a bakery and cafe to enjoy the views from. The Ichinose area is centrally located in Shiga and has the most variety of restaurants to choose from. Okushigakogen has beautiful runs and an international ski school if you’d like ski lessons in English. See more about Shigakogen’s ski areas here.

I hope that helps!
