We\\\’re considering spending a couple days in Nagano in mid-November (11/16-11/17) and it\\\’s our first time visiting. Will the autumn color past its peak then? We\\\’re thinking visiting Matsumoto city and stay at Shirahone Onsen village. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for considering Nagano as one of your destinations!
Autumn colors will most likely be past their peak in central Nagano, but you may see them in Nagano’s southern regions. Two great spots for seeing autumn colors are the Tenryu Gorge and Shimoguri no Sato.
You may also be able to see autumn colors in the Kiso Valley, which is famous for the Nakasendo and its well-preserved post towns: Magome, Tsumago, and Narai. If you have the chance, I highly recommend visiting them. Narai is about 40-50 minutes away from Matsumoto by train (and if you happen to be traveling between Matsumoto and Nagoya, they’re all on the way).
Let me know if you have any other questions about traveling to Nagano!
Thank you so much for the suggestions! I’ll do some research on Southern Nagano and Kiso Valley. Love to visit places off the beaten tracks.
Glad to hear it! Let me know if you have any other questions based on what you find.
