Hi! I have a few questions, hope you can answer them : 1 – Is it worth going to Karuizawa during early September ( around 9th September)? 2 – I\’m planning on visiting Hoshino onsen (will try out the day soak onsen), Kyu – Karuizawa and the shopping outlet, do you think 4hrs is enough? 3 – Do all the shops in Kyu-Karuizawa and Hoshino Onsen open in 9th September? Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
I think Karuizawa is a great place to visit anytime of year. Shopping outlets and the Hoshino Onsen (called Tonbo-no-Yu) should all be open during your visit. My only worry for time is traveling between them. There is no public transportation to the Hoshino Onsen, so you will either have to walk, use a rental bicycle or take a taxi. From Kyu-Karuizawa to Hoshino Onsen, a taxi will take about 10 minutes for around 2400 yen. Riding a bicycle may take from 15 to 25 minutes, and walking will take over an hour. I usually allot about an hour’s worth of time for hot springs, so that would leave you with about 2.5 hours for wondering around and shopping. If that’s fine, then a half-day trip should be plenty.
If you have any other questions, please let me know!
I apologize, I didn’t realize the bus for Hoshino Resort also picked up day-use visitors. That will be the most convenient way to get from Karuizawa station to Tonbo-no-Yu Hoshino Onsen.
