Hi.

I am planning a day trip to Kamikochi from Nagano on 6 Nov 2018. However I read that there are no bus services towards Kamikochi after 5 Nov. Are there any other ways to get there?

Hi Donric,

Buses will continue to run to Kamikochi until it closes for the season on November 16th. You can see the bus timetable here on our website. Note that any bus labeled with a dagger (†) or double asterisk (**) will not be running after Nov. 5th.

I hope that helps clarify things.

Hi Blair,

Thanks for the information and clarification. By the way, will there still be any autumn view in Kamikochi during this day since its during late autumn?

Hi Donric,

You’re welcome!

Kamikochi will have passed its peak autumn foliage season, but there should still be some yellowing trees in the forests. In November, the mountain tops should be covered in snow, and there should be frost on trees and grasses in the early morning. It will be much quieter than peak season as well.

I hope that gives you a better idea.

Hello,

I am planning my trip to Tokyo in late March 2019 and I would like to stay in Nagano for few days (March 20 to 24). I learned that Kamikochi will not be open until April 2019. So, can you give me some suggestions with regarding hiking (or walk in Nagano’s nature area?

Thank you

Hi there,

Nagano is still covered in snow during March, so your best option is to try snowshoeing during your visit. There are many areas around Nagano Prefecture where you can go snowshoeing, with trails in forests, mountains, and ski resorts. See the links below for more information:

Snowshoeing in Nagano
Snowshoeing and Other Winter Activity Details
Snowshoeing in Togakushi (Go! Nagano Blog)
Snowshoeing in Norikura Kogen (Go! Nagano Blog)

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
