First time to Japan and surprising our daughters with a side trip to Nagano to see and play in the snow (they have never seen snow before). We are there for three days and i\\\’m wondering if there is enough to do for non-skiers. We\\\’re looking to visit the snow monkeys (can i book a trip before i depart Hong Kong?), they learnt to ski in Dubai (ski lessons) and are keen skateboarders so i imagine they\\\’ll want to snowboard, can they just turn up and have a go? And evening meals, is it worth just booking dinners with the hotel or is it possible to go out to other restaurants?
Your help is invaluable and thanking you in advance.
If you’re staying in Shiga Kogen, I would recommend eating dinner at your hotel, as buses between Shiga Kogen and Yamanouchi stop running after 19:00.
Ski and snowboard lessons are available through the Shiga International Ski School. Their English-speaking instructors can teach your daughters how to snowboard or improve their skiing. You can also inquire with them about other winter activities nearby. Some activities include sledding, snowshoeing, and horse carriage rides.
Let me know if you have any other questions about Nagano!
