I\’m planning to do the hike up to Shirouma-Dake (passing by the Daiseki) sometime between Oct 25-29. I can\’t find links to the lodge at the top of the mountain and am unsure if it is even open during that time. Any leads, information or a link would be really helpful. Thank you.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for contacting us with your question about Nagano.

The lodge at the top of the mountain, called Shirouma-dake Sancho Sanso, stops running in mid-October. It is still possible to use the tent pitching area next to the lodge, but that means you will need to bring your own tent, all of the water and food you will need for both days, as well as a portable toilet.

Instead, you may want to do a day-hike like nearby Mt. Karamatsu, which has spectacular views and also passes Happo Pond. (The gondola closes for the season after the 27th of October.)

I hope that helps answer your question.
