Hi! I am staying in Nagano for a few days in february, and I’m intrested in going to the Hakuba ski resort for skiing just over a day. Is that possible or would you recommend staying the night in Hakuba as well?
Thanks for your question.
Taking a day-trip to Hakuba is definitely possible. You would want to take the earliest bus from Nagano Station (see timetable) or Matsumoto Station (see timetable) to Hakuba Goryu. From there, you can take the Hakuba Goryu Shuttle bus to the Escal Plaza.
You should arrive by 9:30 and be able to get your rentals sorted to be on the slopes by 10:30. You can then take the 16:10 bus to Matsumoto or the 16:35 bus back to Nagano, arriving back at around 18:00.
If that schedule sounds manageable to you, then a day-trip will work just fine. If it seems too busy, maybe spending the night before you plan to ski is best.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
