I’m considering a partial round trip to the Alpine Route – departing from Matsumoto early in the morning to Ogizawa, travel until Murodo and then turn back to Matsumoto on the same day.
Is this doable in a single day? What would be the latest time to start heading back to Matsumoto? I was looking at the bus time tables here (http://www.go-nagano.net/tripinfo/bus-timetables/matsumoto#omachi) but couldn’t find any information about bus connection between Ogizawa – Matsumoto.
I also have the option of accessing Ogizawa from Nagano City instead – would it be better than Matsumoto in terms of travel distance and transport options?
Yes, it is very possible to visit Murodo from Matsumoto and do a round-trip in a single day.
To travel back from Ogizawa to Matsumoto, you would first take the local Omachi-Ogizawa bus to Shinano-Omachi Station, then take the Oito line train from there to Matsumoto.
The last bus from Ogizawa to Shinano-Omachi Station departs at 17:55, arriving at the station at 18:30. From there you would take the 19:02 train to Matsumoto and arrive at 19:53.
I hope that helps answer your question.
