We will be a family of 4 adults and 2 children. ( 2 and 5 year old). We are thinking of going to Karuizawa prince so the kids can have some experience with snow. ( not skiing or snowboarding) just tubing and playing in the snow.. building snowmen etc. I am looking for other things to do nearby. Is the Chausuyama Dinosaur park a good choice. Do you have other suggestions? Can you suggest some itineraries of things to do with a 2 and 5 year old. We are planning this visit in March of 2020. Do you think there will be enough snow in Nagano? and maybe we don’t need to go to Karuizawa? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for contacting us with your question about Nagano.
March is a great time to visit Nagano. There is still plenty of snow and the coldest months of the year have already passed. You can usually still do a variety of snow activities until late March, including snowshoeing, snowmobiling, sledding and tubing. In addition to Karuizawa Prince Ski Resort, Ryuoo Ski Park also offers many different snow activities that the whole family can enjoy. You can see more information about winter activities here.
Other activities that your children may enjoy include strawberry-picking and soba-making. You can do both in many places around the prefecture. One highly recommended spot is Miharashi Farm, which has not only strawberry-picking and soba-making, but its own restaurant, hot spring, and other activities as well. (See our blog on visiting Miharashi Farm and nearby Senjojiki Cirque in April here)
Another recommendation would of course be the Snow Monkey Park.
I hope that helps answer your question. Let me know if I can help with anything else.
