Good day everyone!!!

This is first time for me to write a blog in English…I’m not only excited but also worried about my English grammar. If I make any mistakes, please forgive me!!

Anyway, this is a good opportunity for me to introduce Karuizawa where is one of the wonderful place in Nagano. I would like to introduce lots of beautiful places, yummy restaurants, and seasonal events’ information etc.

Tourist guide book in English

This is English tourist guide book, which is published by the Karuizawa Tourist Association

(for further information http://www.karuizawa.or.jp/).

It has information about cultural spots, sports facilities, shopping areas and of course ONSEN!!!

Honestly, I just found it in my office……and read it……fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you visit Karuizawa, you MUST read it through!!

From next time, I will start to focus on a particular place and introduce it!

See you soon…

  2. Good day!!
Thank you very much for your reply.
I’m so glad to talk with you!!!
Nagano is good for sight-seeing, especially tourists love to enjoy fresh air and nature.
Matsumoto Cathle, Hot springs, and more……I’m prettey sure that you will love them!!
Also, I would like to recomend you to visit my town, Karuizawa.
I guess, it should be rainy season in the middle of June to early July…..I wish you a safe journey.

If you have any question about Nagano, please contact me!
    Have a lovely day!!
    See you soon!

  3. We are planning to visit Karuizawa on Oct 21 2009. Will we able to see the beautiful Autumn foliage at Karuizawa Prince? Any other good places to see Autumn in Karuizawa or Nagano city? Going by JR East pass from Tokyo.

  4. You can see the beautiful colors of autumn foliage anywhere at Karuizawa Prince Hotel! Also,I recommed you to visit “Kumoba Ike” (Kumoba Lake) and its surrounding area. I believe the best way to get there from the hotel is by bicycle. You can rent a bicycle at Karuizawa Prince Hotel, and it takes only 10 min. from there to the lake. Autumn foliage has already started here. Enjoy seeing the beautiful autumn foliage while you are staying in Karuizawa!!!

  5. Hello Shiromi,
My wife and I are planning a trip to Nagano on early November. We will spend a few days there enjoying nature. May I know how’s the autumn foliage there in early November? And how’s the weather there? Is it cold, raining?

Oh ya. Is there any recommendation on where to stay?

    Thank you very much!

  6. Hi Dominic,

I am not sure where you would like to visit in Nagano, but it will be the best time to see the autumn foliage in and around Karuizawa in early November. Weather here in November is usually settle.

For an accommodation, I would recommend to stay at the Karuizawa Prince Hotel.

    Hope you enjoy your trip!

  7. Hello Shiromi,

I will be visiting Karuizawa next Saturday with friends. Our intention is to visit the Shiraito falls and then walk back from there to Karuizawa Station and taking in the sights along the way.

Do you know approximately how long this walk would take? Also, are there any hot springs on the hiking trail back from Shiraito falls?

Thank you very much for you help.

  8. Hi Bob,

Thanks for the message! It takes approximately 4 hours from Karuizawa Station to Shiraito falls by walking. After passing the Mikasa bridge (I think that it takes approximately 1 and half hours from the station to get there),you can see a “信濃路自然歩道” (Shinanoji Shizen Hodo-it means Shinanoji Hiking Course) ” sign. When you see it,please turn right, and follow the road.

There is one hot spring called “Kose Onsen”,on the way to the falls, but unfortunately it is for Kose Onsen Hotel guests only.

The autumn leaves in Karuizawa are now at their peak. Please enjoy your hike!!!

  9. Dear Mr. Shiromi,

I am visiting Karuizawa on 16 Nov. I am from Singapore. Any recommendation for a one-day trip?

    Thank you very much.

  10. Hi Shiromi,
I stumbled on your very useful site. We are planning another trip to Japan, and are thinking of spending some time in Kanazawa and some time in Nagano, then I saw your site. My question is, should we spend 3 days in Nagano and do a day trip to Karuizawa or stay in Karuizawa for 3 days?
    Thank you
