After a very humid summer, dry and comfortable autumn is finally here. Every time we go out, we can see beautiful autumn leaves in our neighbor’s garden, by the roadside, in temple yards and of course on the mountains which surround Matsumoto and Nagano.
I took this picture at Fukashi shrine in downtown Matsumoto. Fukashi shrine is located behind Matsumoto Performing Arts Center and is surrounded by big trees. The shrine is an Ujigami, which is a guardian God or Spirit for 48 small blocks and some 5,000 local residents.
I took this second picture on a mountain road on the way from Matsumoto to Ueda city. I had always thought that red leaves were the most beautiful, but when I saw the full splendor of the mountains I realized that it was because of their contrast with yellow leaves that the red leaves looked so vivid. So we need green, light green, yellow, orange and red leaves together for beautiful autumn leaves.
If you have a chance to come to Matsumoto, Nagano in autumn, please take enough time to walk around the town and go to the mountains.
This is a blog for foreigners in Japan from all over the world, so here is some extra advice for our visitors who want to enjoy the beautiful autumn in Matsumoto.
