1

Mt. Yakedake is the only actively volcanic peak of the Northern Japan Alps and has an altitude of 2,444m. The volcanic activity creates a number of hot springs including Kamikochi Onsen and Nakanoyu Onsen. It can be seen from Taisho Pond where it is reflected beautifully in its still waters.

Mt. Yakedake is a popular day hike which can be done from within Kamikochi or from the Nakanoyu area. From the Yakedake trailhead, the climb takes about 5 hours, covering a distance of 6.4km. If travelling by public transportation, factor in the 3km hike from the bus stop which adds another 70 min.
