Located at the top of Ryuoo Ski Park’s ropeway lift, the 1,770m Sora terrace has stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including Mt. Kosha and the Hokushin Gogaku (Mt. Iizuna, Kurohime, Togakushi, Madarao, and Myoko). When conditions are just right, clouds completely cover the valley below, becoming a vast sea interrupted only by rocky peaks. This phenomenon, called unkai in Japanese, can be seen regularly here—appearing on 63.5% of the days the terrace is open.

The Sora terrace cafe, adjacent to the terrace, was renovated in 2017 and features wall-to-wall windows, stylish seating and a central fire place for those cool days in autumn and winter. The menu includes coffees, colorful beverages, and a wide range of food from light snacks to Japanese comfort foods like curry rice and omelettes.

During the green season, several trekking courses run through Ryuoo Ski Park and neighboring Mt. Kosha for those who want to break a sweat. There are many colorful wildflowers around the mountain, and rare flowers such as blue poppies are cultivated here by taking advantage of the high altitude and spring snow.

On select dates, starry sky tours are also available!

Ride on one of Japan's largest ropeways and rise above the clouds!
