I first came to Japan in the winter of 2003 to snowboard the Japanese Alps. I was persuaded to go to Hakuba which has some very impressive resorts and endless back country options. I fell in love with the mountains, the powder snow, the Japanese people and their culture. Upon backing up 3 years in a row of snow holidays I thought it would be a great opportunity to pursue my love for the outdoors by setting up the White Horse Hotel in Hakuba. When I began my life here I had only visited in the winter so it was a big surprise to find that the warmer months are as much a treat as the colder. Fishing, golf, watersports, canyoning and world class mountain biking are just a few of my pursuits along with studying the language and educating people from around the globe that Nagano is a major international destination for holidays and business opportunities. I hope to pass on some of my knowledge of Nagano and especially Hakuba to everyone interested in visiting our slice of paradise.
